Emma: 9 Months Old

Emma turned 9 months old on April 30th. According to "What to Expect the First Year" this is where she is at with her developmental milestones.

Most babies will probably be able to...

  • She can do:
    • Get into a sitting position from tummy
    • Work to get a toy that is out of reach
    • Respond to own name (most of the time)
    • Smile at self in mirror
    • Follow your gaze when you look away

Half of all babies will be able to...
  • She can do:
    • Pull up to standing position from sitting
    • Crawl
    • Stand holding on to someone to something
    • Say "mama" and "dada" without meaning (she totally knows the meaning)
    • Play peekaboo
  • She can't yet do:
    • Object if you try to take a toy away (or hasn't yet)
    • Pick up a tiny object with thumb and finger (she is really close)

Some babies will be able to...
  • She can do:
    • Walk holding onto furniture (cruise) (as of 4/19/16)
    • Stand alone momentarily (she doesn't do it often as she doesn't like to fall)
    • Understand "no" but not always obey
  • She can't yet do:
    • Clap hands or wave bye-bye (she tries, but isn't there just yet)

A few babies will be able to...
  • She can do:
    • Drink from a cup independently (as long as it has a straw)
    • Say "dada" or "mama" with meaning (she says both)
  • She can't yet do:
    • Say one word other than "mama" or "dada" (Bobby disagrees, but the word she says to nurse isn't really a word. It is more just a sound.)
    • Respond to one-step command with gestures ("Give that to me." said with hand out)
    • Stand alone well
    • Play ball (roll ball back to you)

Emma: April 2016

Here is what Emma was up to in April.

Baby snuggles are rare these days. But when they happen I treasure them, even when it means she is going to go to bed really late because it is nap number 3.

She is always so happy.

We had some pretty bad weather this month, April showers and all. Well, we went to dinner one night and when we got back the power in our neighborhood was out. Well, we enter our house through the garage and all our doors are locked from the inside so we were locked out. First we hung out in the driveway because Emma was really fussy in her car seat.

According to the website it was supposed to be a hour and a half wait. So, we decided to go to Walmart to kill some time. Turns out, we left 3 minutes before the power came back on. On the plus side, Emma got a cute rubber ducky bath toy out of it.

We had several nights this month where Emma just did not want to go to bed. We are really tying to get on a good schedule, but it is really hard with daycare. I'm counting down the days until summer when we can work on it. At least she is cute!

We have officially moved into 9-12 month clothes.

She has become very adventurous, crawling through things and all over the place. She tends to get stuck and then cries because she can't get out. She prefers to go over or through things, instead of around. She will also crawl away from us, such as around the couch and then cries because she is "lost" and can't find her way back.

There was one weekend we really struggled with naps. She was running a fever off and on which I thought was teething. She took all her naps on the floor either in the living room or her room.
She wasn't really eating much all weekend which I also attributed to her teething. But, Monday morning she woke with this really bad rash. So I took her to the doctor. Turns out she was probably allergic to the dryer sheets, but she did have an ear infection, which is why she had a fever and wasn't eating. This was her 4th ear infection in 5 months so we have been referred to a Pediatric ENT. Our appointment is May 6th, which also the same day as her 9 month well visit. Even though we finished her antibiotics last Tuesday, she has been messing with her ear again I have a feeling that Friday at her appointment her ear will be infected again.

She has mastered the art of the straw sippy cup. She isn't a fan of the ones you have to tip up because she can't figure out how to tip it up herself.

We went on a family date night and Bobby and Emma matched on accident.

She also would not keep her leg in the highchair hole. She just relaxed the whole time chowing down on some rolls and puffs.

She is a master cruiser now and is getting into everything.

She is still doing great at daycare. She has one more month until summer break.

At the beginning of the month she was crawling over to the babies and trying to take their pacifiers. Not sure why, because she weaned herself from hers around 7 months old.

One day they had a fire drill.
Her new favorite thing is to bang on stuff, so of course banging on a pot was a blast.
Emma has really started giggling a lot now. Mostly for Bobby, I have a hard time getting her to laugh..

She likes to walk as long as she is holding on to us. If you let go she sits down immediately.
