Pregnancy #2: 31 Weeks and Specialist Appointment

I was 31 weeks pregnant on March 6th.

According to thebump.com thebaby is the size of a pineapple.

The Baby
He is between 15.2 and 16.7 in long and around 2.5 - 3.8 lbs.

He is still going through some major brain and nerve development.

His eyes are now reactive to light and all five of his senses are working, except he doesn't use the sense of smell yet, since he has no air.

I did a ton of spinning babies exercises over the weekend, especially knees to chest. I was really excited to see if he had flipped at the specialist appointment.

For a baby with down syndrome and heart issues, he is really strong and active. He would shake the whole hospital bed when I was there and now my belly moves so much it hurts sometimes.

The Mama
I went back to work this week. It was really tiring, but my kids where so excited to have me back that I had 0 issues. Next week is Spring Break so I will get another week to recooperate. I can finally sleep on my right side which has been heaven. One of my incisions will not stay closed and we have had to butterfly it twice.

We had out hospital tour on Saturday, and while we got the info we needed, it was just way too long for second time parents.

The Specialist Appointment
The baby looks good. His kidneys are now 100% and no longer have extra fluid on them. He is no longer breech! So the knees to chest paid off! We did the 20 minute monitoring. He wouldn't move so they had to buzz him with a vibrating buzzer and he did not like that.

Pregnancy #2: 30 Weeks, specialist and midwife appointments

I was 30 weeks pregnant on February 27th.

According to thebump.com the baby is the size of a cucumber.

The Baby
His skin is getting smoother and his brain is getting wrinklier to make way for brain tissue.
He is now strong enough to grasp a finger!
He is around 16 in long and 3 lbs.

The Mama
This was the 2nd week out of the hospital. I was able to do a lot more this week and felt much better. The best part was being able to drive myself again. I was able to go back to the chiropractor and work on my ribs that were out of place due to being sick. I also got a free prenatal massage which was heaven after being in a hospital bed for 2 weeks. I wasn't sleeping great because I couldn't sleep on my right side due to my incisions and shoulder issues. I was off my pain meds for the most part this week though.

The Midwife Appointment
The midwife appointment went well. They came to visit me everyday while in the hospital so they said I looked so much better. My blood pressure was good and no signs of preeclampsia. The baby measured right on track.

The Specialist Appointment
This appointment they started monitoring just because I had been in the hospital (even though they monitored twice a day in the hospital. They also rechecked the fluid since it was low in the hospital and it was back up to the middle of normal. Normally they don't start monitoring weekly until 32 weeks, but they went and a head and started me now because I had been in the hospital. He is breech, which honestly doesn't surprise me with all the laying on my back and reclining I did in the hospital. Time for some spinning babies. My specialist also said I looked way better.

February 2018 (aka the month of sickness and hospitals)

This month was not a good month for our family. At the end of January Emma got sick with what we now know as the adeno virus. I then got that same sickness but being pregnant I couldn't take any medicine besides Tylenol so I was laid up in bed for a week. This caused me to get pneumonia in my lungs and fluid around my lungs constricting my breathing. I was admitted to the hospital on February 3rd. They tried several ways to get the fluid out, first with just a needle and second with a chest tube. However after a week in the hospital I had to have surgery, a thoracotomy where they sucked out the fluid constricting my lung. I was in the ICU since the beginning and they were always scared to give me pain meds since I was pregnant. After the surgery I was in a lot of pain and it took 10 hours to get it under control. This is when my midwife and OB came and checked on me and gave me different pain meds. Why the nurses didn't call OB and ask what they could give me I don't know and I was so out of it and in so much pain I didn't think to ask. Four days after the surgery I was moved to a step down unit. I should not have been moved here, I wasn't sick enough for ICU, but I was still in too much pain for the step down unit. They removed the tubes on day five and moved me to the high risk maternity ward. The care here was great and I was here for about another five days because I couldn't get off of oxygen. I was in the hospital for total of 16 days and then home recovering for two weeks. I was out of work a total of 5 weeks. Luckily the baby handled everything great and the low fluid we had at our growth scan went right back up.

The first week that I was in the hospital Emma was passed around to different family members, but she had a blast.

Week two and after I was out of the woods, Bobby started his new job and Emma came back home.

She was able to go back to daycare after being out for 2 weeks, which she was very excited about.

While I couldn't do much when I got home, we were still able to have a little fun.

January 2018

January started off with week number 2 of Christmas break.

It was a pretty lazy week where we just played with Christmas presents and enjoyed the warm weather.

It was actually pretty warm outside, she just was obsessed with her gloves and hat.

We got to visit with some friends.
 Play date worn out.
She was all about wearing shoes, but being naked at the same time.

I got all of her clothes, shoes, accesories packed up. This is newborn to 24 months. I have no idea why we have so much stuff. This baby will not have near as many and neither will Emma from here on out.
 Capris and t-shirts in January.

We went to my moms to see my brother who has been Puerto Rico helping get power back to them after the hurricanes.

15 minutes down the road to my moms and she has to go potty.

Bobby and both had to work on MLK day, but the daycare was closed so Peyton and Amber came over to play. Emma got a black eye because she ran into Peyton.
This month was filled with lots of cuddles.

She is all about copying people this month.
School fun!

At the end of the month sickness hit our house bad. It started with Emma who kept spiking high fevers.

We went to pediatrician because she got an ear infection and I wanted to make sure she didn't have the flu. Flu test was negative.

She was singing happy birthday to her sock in this picture.
 Poor baby was so miserable.

Once the Motrin kicked in she was good for a few hours.

This sickness kicked our butts, more info in the February post.
