How To Always Have A Clean House...Well, Almost Always

UPDATED 1/21/14 - Due to a new job I have had to change things around for them to work for me again. This is an updated one.

This is what I have come up with to beat my procrastination as a housewife.

So I have gotten so many comments on this about how your wasting water, you should do this instead, etc. This is what works for me and my family.

Laundry: Our family is small, my husband and I both work in a job where we have to wash our work clothes a lot. If I let our laundry pile up and only do it twice a week, I do 3 loads in one day, so it saves me time to do one load a day. I use the same amount of water doing a load everyday to everyday and a half, as I would doing it 2 days a week.

Dusting: Our apartment is small and we don't collect a lot of dust. I dust maybe every two weeks if that. Thursday is my busiest day, so I put the easiest/fastest chore for that day.

Like I said above, I appreciate everyone's comments but this is what works for my family, I know it won't work for everyone. I am sure as we move, and our family grows I will change it to fit our new needs.

  4. Laundry and dishwasher every night seem like a big waste of water... We do 2 (sometimes 3) loads of laundry once a week. Saves money and the environment. Did you know depending on your machine, one load of laundry can use up to 50 gallons of water per wash? That's over 18,000 gallons in year if you're doing it every day!

    1. I'm sure you could adapt this to your own needs. This is just a guide and may be necessary for the author's family. :)

    2. I agree! We have more than a load of laundry every day thanks to outdoor farm chores and little kids. If I only did it two days a week I would be way behind.

    3. Did you know that when you live with 5 sons, if you don't do a load of laundry every day and dishes 2-3 times per day, you won't have any clean clothes or dishes? It is the same water use if you wash 3 loads in one day, or one load a day for 3 days....

  5. I have just started using it this week and already I am seeing a big difference. Even working outside of the home, this is a do able plan, especially now that my children are old enough to help. Thank you so much!

  7. I've been trying this for a month now and even my husband comments on how nice our house has been looking. I thought doing one load a day would be irritating, but it's working really well & I'm not trying to catch up on the weekend. I also like having a plan so if I don't have time one week to mop, I know it'll get done next week. Thanks for the ideas!

  8. Ha! I hear you on the laundry! I do a few loads a week and still feel like I spend an entire weekend day doing several loads. Love your plan, excited to move around the days to fit our schedule and give it a try. I think it could be life altering : ) Thank you!

  10. Wondering how this will work if you have a bigger house to clean. I have 3 full size bathroom to clean. Do you mop the bathrooms on bathroom night or mop night? What if you have 2 kids in activities and don't get home three nights a week until 7? I like these concept and am going to try and use it.

    1. Well, if I had a larger house I would probably add Saturday into the mix to give me an extra day. I mop our bathroom on mop day since it is the day after bathroom day. As we don't have kids yet I have no answer for that questions. But if I had kids and they were old enough I would have them help me out so everything would still get done, but twice as fast!

  11. I live alone so don't do the laundry that often but do throw the clother in the washer instead of laundry basket so once it's full, the laundry gets started then through towels and sheets in for the next load..do something similar for the dishwasher...all other ideas I have followed as suggested. Works great!

  12. I sometimes do several loads of laundry every day. 3 kids and cloth diapers make that reality! Great tips I'm planning on implementing. I may have my daughter do the night laundry load and do mine in the morning duties list... trial and error!
