Emma: 12 Months Old

Emma turned 12 months old on July 30th. Here is where she is at with her developmental milestones according to "What to Expect the First Year"
 Most babies will probably be able to...

  • She can do:
    • Cruise
    • Respond to name when called
    • Drink from cup with help
    • Bank two blocks or other toys together
    • Cooperate with dressing by offering a foot or arm
    • Raise arms when want to be picked up
    • Use a few gestures to get needs met-pointing, showing, reaching, waving

Half of all babies will be able to...
  • She can do:
    • Clap hands
    • Wave bye-bye
    • Stand alone momentarily 
    • Say "dada" and "mama"
    • Say one word other than "mama" or "dada," she says "bye"
    • Copy sounds and gestures you make
    • Pick up a tiny object neatly with tips of thumb and forefinger

Some babies will be able to...
  • She can do:
    • Play ball
    • Stand alone well
    • Respond to music with body motion
    • Walk well
  • She can't yet do:
    • Use immature jargon-gibberish that sounds like a foreign language

A few babies will be able to...
  • She can do:
    • Respond to another person's upset by becoming upset
    • Show affection, particularly to mommy and daddy
    • Show stranger and/or separation anxiety 
  • She can't yet do:
    • Say three words or more other than "mama" or "dada"
    • Respond to a one-step command without gestures
